An in-depth analysis of the relation between biodiversity and its services
and human health was presented in this section. Examples discussed included,
among others, shifts in the distribution and occurrence of insect-borne
tropical diseases resulting from global warming, increased incidence of
respiratory illnesses in areas with high deforestation rates, and the
increased risk of disease transfer from wild animal populations to humans
as evidenced by the HIV-chimpanzee connection.
