Although it is necessary to develop a long-term, integrated strategy for
biodiversity conservation, urgent immediate action is highly needed in
major focal areas, the biodiversity hotspots, to salvage these highly
threatened areas. This section analyzed, in detail, the characteristics
and most important threats to these areas, and devised a plan for immediate
conservation action.
